ANSONIA, Conn. – Hunt to Feed, based in Oxford, Connecticut is informing area residents through its sponsor, WhiteTail Solutions, about the charitable efforts of hunters who will come hunt your land at no charge, and donate a portion of their deer harvest to the CT Food Bank and various other non-profit organizations throughout Connecticut.

The Hunters for the Hungry legislation act paved the way for the launch of the Hunt to Feed program in 2006.  This program provides an avenue for hunters to donate their deer harvest free of charge.  It is then processed and donated to the CT Food Bank and various other non-profit organizations throughout Connecticut.

Deer hunting season began September 15, and hunters can only hunt during specific hours and NOT on Sundays.   No minimum amount of acreage is required for bowhunters, but a minimum of 10 contiguous acres is required for a center fired rifle, as well as obeying other regulations.

“We are so grateful to the Hunt to Feed participants,” said Nancy Carrington, executive director of the CT Food Bank, “from the prior two hunting seasons they have provided over 7,868 meal portions of much-needed lean and nutritious protein, which is always hard to come by.”

“In addition to the sport of the hunt, state hunters are helping homeowners control the over population of deer, while at the same time, helping our fellow state residents who are in need of the nutrition from area non-profits,” says Dan Beyer, spokesperson for Hunt to Feed.

The Hunt to Feed program coincides with Connecticut’s Deer Management plan, whereby hunters are awarded replacement harvest tags as an encouragment to harvest more deer in Zones 11 and 12, including towns in Fairfield Country and all along the CT Coastline, up to the Rhode Island border.

This past September 5th, Hunt to Feed held its first annual fund raising awareness banquet to a sold out crowd at John J. Sullivan’s Restaurant in Ansonia, CT.  This event was primarily held to raise the awareness of this program prior to the September 15th commencement of hunting season.  We are extremely grateful to all our sponsors for their generous donations to our raffle which include several members of the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance such as The Game Sled, Muzzy and National Shooting Sports Foundation to name a few.  Over $4,000 was raised to goes towards this year’s processing costs as well as towards the costs of this program’s mission of becoming a non-profit 501c3 organization.
