Lincoln Urges Obama Team to Focus on Rural America in Economic Recovery Package

01-19-09

Washington - U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) met with members of President-elect Obama's economic team this week to discuss the need to include rural America in the upcoming economic recovery package.

"Our rural communities have suffered during these tough economic times and we must ensure they are not overlooked in any recovery package we put forth," Lincoln said. "We have the opportunity to provide incentives and critical funds for transportation infrastructure, broadband technology, water projects, food assistance programs, rural education, and other initiatives that will create jobs and strengthen our rural economies. This meeting was an opportunity to stress to the incoming Obama Administration that rural America must have a seat at the table during these discussions so that these communities get the economic boost they desperately need and deserve."

Lincoln serves as the Chair of Rural Outreach for the Senate Democratic Caucus, a position she has held since 2005. Through her leadership position, Lincoln lends a rural perspective to the Senate agenda and promotes policies that benefit rural America.
