Nebraska Awarded $1 Million for At-Risk Fish and Wildlife Species
LINCOLN, Nebraska - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announces the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has been awarded a $1 million grant to help conserve and recover Nebraska at-risk fish and wildlife species through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's competitive State Wildlife Grant Program appropriated by Congress.
Implementation of the funds will be through the Commission's Nebraska Natural Legacy Plan. The plan identifies conservation targets, threats to Nebraska's biodiversity and conservation strategies and is implemented with private landowners and conservation partners to impact local landscapes that benefit fish and wildlife species at risk.
In all, $9 million were awarded to 12 states, and will be matched by more than $7 million in nonfederal funds provided by the states and their partners.
"The awarding of this grant to advance our Natural Legacy Plan demonstrates the high regard that exists for all of our partners and our accomplishments to date," said Commission Director Rex Amack. "This grant will allow us to make even greater strides in conserving Nebraska's wildlife heritage for future generations."
