Tree Stand Fall Fatal to Sneads Man

12-17-08

SNEADS, Fla. - A hunter from the Jackson County town of Sneads died late Saturday afternoon after falling from his tree stand.

Terry Herndon, who would have turned 67 on Sunday, was found by family members under his tree stand about 7 p.m. He was hunting an area south of town off Hill Farm Road.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Investigator Jempsey Owen said Herndon was hunting from a 12-foot, wooden ladder tree stand, which had partially collapsed. Family members indicated the stand had been in the woods at least a year, perhaps longer.

Herndon was not wearing a safety harness.
