Mississippi Senate Committee OKs Deer Farming
A bill pending before the Mississippi state Senate would authorize deer farming in the Magnolia State.
The bill was approved last week by the Senate Wildlife Committee and, if approved by the legislators, would allow the import and export of farm-raised whitetail deer, semen, ova and embryos.
Agriculture is Mississippi’s No. 1 industry and employs 30 percent of the state’s work force. Deer farming is one of the fastest growing industries in rural America, and Sen. Tommy Gollott (R-Biloxi) told the media in Jackson, Miss., that deer farming could generate millions of dollars for the state annually.
